After a night at a YHA hostel in Kunming we needed something with a bit more privacy and an ensuite bathroom.
The Long May Youth Hotel is a very centrally located hotel. It is close to the Yunnan Uni so there are lots of great shops and restaurants very close. If you want to visit with some English speaking folks Salvadors is only a 5-10 min. walk. It is located between green lake and the Kunming Zoo so that might an attraction to some.
As fare as the rooms go, they are extremely clean and comfortable. The beds are a wee bit hard but that goes with being in China.
Although most of the staff cannot speak English they can telephone the "owner/manager?" and he will speak with you to answer any questions.
Our daughter was sick while we were here and the staff and the owner went out of their way to be helpful.
The only real criticism I have besides the beds being a bit hard -but OK, is there are no directions written on the website in English. Because the hotel is tucked away on a quiet street the taxi had a hard time finding it. The quiet street is a real bonus though

"All in all ok, but..."

Comments  (English):
Reception: Nice and friendly, spoke basic English.
Room: Room was clean and normalsized. There was (almost) no outside view, as the room is a bit lower than the basement. The bed is rather hard, and voices/TV from adjacent rooms could be heard quite well. No air condition.
Location: A bit hidden from the main street (Bei Men Jie), make sure you have the phone number with you, in case the taxidriver has difficulties finding it. Quiet area, yet food options in direct neighbourhood limited. Near Universities.
Price: Rather high for a hostel, you can get a hotel with breakfast for just a little more.

Comfortalbe and really clean rooms. Far from the centre of kunming, but near by its peaceful Green lake. Very quiet.
