Stayed in one of the 3 finished cottages for 7 nights. We are 2 adults and 2 kids and also a baby but he had his own cot. The two bedrooms have double beds and nets. My two kids shared double bed and the baby was in with us. The owner could not have been more helpful. The cottages are finished to a very high standard with everything you would need for self catering in the kitchen. Everything looks new.
There is TV with local channels and Al-Jeezera and we were able to plug in our own DVD player. The living room and kitchen are open plan and cosy and there is a terrace and table and chairs outside. The 3 cottages shared a small grassy area and there is a laundry building. Staff keep the outside clean. Lovely views of Mount Meru behind the cottages and Kili can be seen from the gate in on a clear day.
There is generator for when the power is out. We walked in the surrounding area visiting some local villages and we went to Arusha National Park which is only 20mins away and had a few days in Arusha which is about 30min drive. 15 min of this is getting down to the main road. The road to the property is 3km from the tramac and is very rough and steep. 4 wheel drive would be essential in wet season. There are some unfinished buildings within 50m of the property but no building work is currently ongoing.
This place is a fantastic value place to stay at $55 per night and we would return if in the area.

My family and I spent our christmas and new year's at Milimani Cottages near usa-river in Arusha. The place is in a rural area but once you step in, you get a feeling of tranquility. It is a very nice place and the owner is an elderly lady who is very kind and treats her visitors as family. The cottages themselves are neat, spacious and have a feeling of home. The upside is that you get to see Mt Meru and on a good day, you can also see Mt Kilimanjaro. This was a plus plus to me. The road to Milimani Cottages from usa river is about 3 kms and does not have tarmac. It is similar to any off road in rural areas in Tanzania. Going to Milimani Cottages and staying there gives you a feeling of being one with nature and yet at the same time it has incorporated many aspects of the urban area. I would recommend a visit for someone from this hectic and noisy life.
