Comments  (English):
This hotel is a converted siheyuan, or traditional Chinese house, so you definitely feel like you're at a home. The staff is VERY friendly, attentive and courteous, and there is always at least ONE person who speaks good English, which is often difficult to find in China. The rooms are not hotel-style rooms, they are more like something you'd find in a house, but they are equipped with air-conditioning - a precious commodity in the humid weather. If you're looking for a hotel, this is NOT the place. But if you want something authentically Chinese, this is a FABULOUS choice!! They are located in Old Beijing, in the center of the city. There is a subway entrance/exit very close, less than a block away, which is great because the subway is very inexpensive. You can also catch a cab from the corner, or the hotel will call one for you. Cab rides are very cheap too, usually not more than $5, unless you are going far. The hotel itself is very tranquil, with a center courtyard, complete with roses, and beautiful Chinese trees. There are also live animals that serve as traditional Chinese good luck charms, like a rabbit and a grasshopper (in a small cage, like in the movie Mulan). They also have a main room, where there is a television and computer/internet access. They served a cooked breakfast every morning that included sausage, eggs, toast (with butter and homemade jam!), and watermelon upon request. Otherwise, a road famous for its restaurants is just around the corner. If you want to feel like you're in China, stay here - You won't regret it!!
